Daily Prayer for February 18

Learning to Love

On a beautiful spring day the back door opened and a voice said, “Well, you know what time it is…12:00…lunchtime!” Resentment and frustration immediately surfaced, but I didn’t say anything as I hung up the drying towel. I had just finished cleaning up the kitchen after the special breakfast we had enjoyed only a couple of hours earlier! As he walked out of the kitchen, I jerked open the refrigerator, pulled out the items I would need to prepare his lunch. My temperature was rising as he sat down at the dinette table, but I was determined to serve him so I walked over and slammed the plate down on the table before walking out. Quickly I made my way into the dining room, and silently cried out, “Again? I have failed again! I’ve been reading, praying and meditating on 1 Corinthians 13, but my behavior stinks! Show me what to do to prevent this from happening next Saturday, please.” The answer was so simple. The next week I prepared his lunch, wrapped it carefully and set it in the refrigerator where it would stay fresh. Now how easy was that? Of course, that is not the end of the story, but my Saturdays were more pleasant!

Prayer:
Father, according to Your Word I am to work out my own salvation. Thank You for helping me, for working with me! I desire to please You by learning to walk in Your Love that never fails. I choose the way of Love today for You have given me the Holy Spirit to fill my heart with Your love. I ask You to forgive me and deliver me from this selfish, self-centered, self-serving attitude, and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. I choose to submit to Your Love that endures long, is patient and kind in the name of Jesus my Example and my Lord.
