Daily Prayer for February 14

A Love Commitment

Marriage counselors said that it would never last. His dad was an alcoholic, his mother a strong woman of faith. Her dad was a rigid-religious man who ruled his home with a heavy hand; her mother was a woman of prayer. In the providence of God this young man and young woman met and married after dating six months. Now that he was married he was determined to do everything with perfection. There were two ways to do things; his way and the wrong way. His thoughts were mathematically driven with no room for emotions…a man of few words. Feeling very mature and in control she was driven by her love for books and her thirst for knowledge. Her thoughts were idealistically driven with a need to understand herself and others, and she was determined to do everything with perfection. She processed her feelings and her issues verbally. They had a huge communication problem! This husband and father laid down his life for his family. She read everything on marriage and child-rearing, attended seminars and asked the Holy Spirit to teach her how to love. After more than fifty (50) years of marriage, they will tell you that it was their common understanding of commitment based on a covenant they had made with God that kept them together. This marriage is made up of two imperfect people who believe in the perfect love of God that never fails, and by the grace of God they stayed together. The counselors were wrong!

Prayer:
Father, how can we ever express our love to You for Your faithfulness to us for over 50 years of marriage? Thank You for the love of Christ that controls, urges and impels us because we are of the opinion and conviction that if One died for all, then all died. He died so that we who live might live no longer to and for ourselves, but to and for Him Who died and was raised again for our sake. Thank You for sending the Holy Spirit who is helping us function so that each personality is preserved while responding to the desires of the other. Our unity that preserves individuality is a mystery, but that is how it is when we are united to Christ. So we honor our commitment by keeping on in our love for You and for one another. Father, let the miracle will keep on happening, in the name of Jesus!
