To Watch What You Say

Father, I thank You for the Holy Spirit who brings all things to my remembrance. I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be for right things. My mouth shall speak truth.  May I always remember that he who has knowledge spares his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.  I choose life that my generations might live unto righteousness.  Amen

Walk by Faith

Father, in the name of Jesus I thank You for the measure of faith.  It is the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me. In His name, I live by faith, not by sight.  I draw near to the throne of God with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having my heart sprinkled from an evil conscience, and my body washed with pure water.  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  Amen

The Stronghold of Accusation

Father God, I repent and renounce all accusations I have spoken against You, others and myself.  Forgive me for being suspicious rather than discerning, and looking for evil intent rather than believing the best.  I repent of and renounce self-pity, inordinate sensitivity, and gossip.  Now is come my salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of my God, and the power of His Christ…I am an overcomer by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of my testimony in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.  Amen

Answering Questions and Responding to Comments from Our Readers

August 28, 2013

Comment from our Readers:

Lately, I have heard that once you pray for something you should not pray for it again, but just thank God for the answer. I’m not sure how to handle this.

My Response:

There are many formulas on prayer, but I have found that learning to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit is the best way to pray.  He never violates God’s will. He is our Prayer Partner and Helper…He knows the will and purposes of the Father in any given situation. He also knows where our prayers are most needed at any time.

In those early days of learning about prayer I heard one of my teachers say, “If you ask for something more than once, you are praying in unbelief.” (At least that’s the way I heard it.) I remember applying that to my prayer for a dear friend’s salvation. I asked once, and from then on I praised God for her salvation. She attended a Bible study with me, and we talked about the things we were learning. One night while we were driving she told me she had received Jesus as her Savior.

Of course, I thought I had found a method to pray, but I would soon learn (still learning) that we are to pray “all manner of prayer.” Soon I was praying for many, and discovered there are different kinds of prayer: intercessory prayer, supplication, prayer of faith, submission, worship and praise.  Sometimes while in intercession (prayers for others) I would find myself drawn back to the same Scriptural prayers again and again.

One day as I was reading Nehemiah 6 it was as though the Holy Spirit turned on a light bulb.  Nehemiah relates, “Then Sanballat and Geshem sent a message, asking me to meet with them in one of the villages in Ono Valley. I knew they were planning to harm me in some way. So I sent messengers to tell them, “My work is too important to stop now and go there. I can’t afford to slow down the work just to visit with you.” They invited me four times, but each time I refused to go.” He made the choice not to meet with his adversaries. What a great example!  No matter how the enemy tempts us, we can always choose to say, “O no, I’m doing a great work and I can’t come down!”

There are a few people for whom I pray that are lured into the Valley of Ono time and time again. (We have to learn how to stand in the gap for our fellow believers, but be aware that God has given them a free will.) They may need someone who will not be moved by their behavior, but will continue to stand before God on their behalf.

Often, I repeat the same scriptural prayers; add other scriptures as the Holy Spirit leads, and/or pray in the spirit until I know my prayer assignment is finished. God calls the church to pray and we are not alone, even though we may feel that we are.

Along with the prayers, I worship God and praise Him for the answers.  I do not abort the prayers, but pray until I have an assurance, release or a witness in my spirit that my part of the work has been done. I sincerely believe that the Holy Spirit adds to the prayers that we pray with thanksgiving.

There are times that I see a Christian wander into a strange land, and the Holy Spirit reminds me “All is Well. The Father has started a good work in them and He will complete it.”  On the basis of that I thank God for what He has done and what He’s going to do in the life of that individual. From the writings of the Apostle Paul we learn to pray for fellow believers until Christ be formed in them (and us). We are all a work in progress!

I address this in my book, A Global Call to Prayer.

Affirmation of Deliverance

Today I will extol the Lord; praise shall continually be on my lips.  My soul will boast in the Lord; when I am afflicted I will hear the voice of my God and rejoice.  Come, glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together.  When I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.  I look to Him and I am radiant, my face is never covered with shame.  I called, and He heard me; He saved me out of all my troubles.  The angel of the Lord encamps around me because I revere Him, and He delivers me.  Praise the name of the Lord!  Amen

Walking in Truth

Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth: unite my heart to fear Your name.  You, my Lord God, are a sun and shield: You give grace and glory: no good thing will You withhold from them that walk uprightly.  I am blessed because I know the joyful sound: I shall walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance.  In the name of Jesus I do Your commandments that I may have rights to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. Amen.

Sin of Rejection Defeated

Father God, I repent of the sin of rejection and renounce this vile enemy of faith.  I take responsibility in my generations for this stronghold that has separated me from You, from others and myself.  I have judged the facial expressions of others, and rejected them because I feared rejection.  I confess that I rejected them before they could reject me.  I ask for forgiveness and pray that this curse of rejection be broken, and by the power of the Holy Spirit I cast it out in the name of Jesus.  This curse is broken in my family because we are accepted in the Beloved.  Amen

Overcoming Rejection

Lord Jesus, You are a high priest who is touched with the feeling of my infirmities.  You were in all points tempted like I am; yet You were without sin.  You were despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.  I hid as it were my face from You; You were despised, and I esteemed You not.  Forgive me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness.  I am coming boldly unto the throne of grace, that I may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. I thank you for helping me overcome this horrible sense of rejection!  Amen

To Walk in God’s Wisdom

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore I am going after wisdom: and with all my getting I get understanding. Wisdom will enter my heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to my soul. Teach me to number my days aright, that I may gain a heart of wisdom.  My mouth will speak words of wisdom; the utterance from my heart will give understanding.   Amen

Honoring God

Father, in the name of Jesus, I will not draw back or shrink in fear, for then Your soul would have no delight or pleasure in me.  I was bought for a price—purchased with preciousness and paid for, made Your very own.  I honor You, LORD, and desire to bring glory to You in my body.  I will let my light shine before men that they may see my moral excellence and praiseworthy good deeds, that they will recognize, honor, praise and glorify You, my Father who is in heaven.  Amen
